West Papuans are now increasingly connected to each other. In the future, sooner or later, the connection will be even more massive, so that the progress of the area will soon be achieved. But still, should we realize that the struggle to advance West Papua is not an easy one.
Another attack on the development process of Trans Papua has recently occurred again. The incident has caused a member of the security forces, Pratu Kasnun, to be killed by a gunshot wound in the back during a shootout between the TNI and the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the district of Mugi, Nduga Regency on May 2019.
It was started when 12 soldiers were carrying out routine patrols, to ensure the security of the construction of the Trans Papua bridge, and all of a sudden, the they were attacked by the KKB. The shootout occurred for up to 5 hours, and the forces succeeded in repelling members of the KKB. Unfortunately, one of the security forces, Pratu Kasnum, died in the incident.
The KKB that is identified as the Egianus Kogoya group had previously committed various crimes. It is known that throughout 2018, the KKB had launched 20 attacks, took 1,300 hostages and killed 40 people, including Trans Papua workers. Earlier in February 2019, the KKB threatened to kill all non-Papuans, which caused 1,000 West Papuans, especially from Nduga Regency to flee.
The opening of roads and the construction of the TransPapua bridge is slowly opening access to all isolated districts in the West Papua region. The effort has indeed received a lot of support from indigenous West Papuans, but unfortunately some parties, both individuals and organizations, tend to prioritize their evil interests and disrupt the course of development for the progress of West Papua.
